Thanksgiving in a Can

Holidays are often rich in memories, and for us, Thanksgiving is no exception.

The featured pictures depict one of my personal favorites.

And, in the spirit of this day for giving thanks, we'd just like to say:

Thanks for the memories.

And happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Squidley's and Elovabeth's Costume Tees

Hope everyone did indeed have a "HAPPY HALLOWEENIE" yesterday.

Nighty night, all.

Yesterday's News

I forgot to post this photograph on Thursday. The sticker is one of two that Squidley and I earned when we cast our ballots ahead of the official election day. And though things were busy at the location where we voted, there was not more than about a minute's wait.

We've had a busy, enjoyable day. I even managed to get in a little bike time. And for this particular outing, I bundled up nicely, wearing long pants, a long-sleeved top covered by a windbreaker, a wool scarf, and a knit cap underneath my helmet. There was a very cold wind that made those clothing items a must. And they definitely did the job. I didn't get cold at all.

Hope you're having a pleasant evening.

Nighty night, all.

The Sky is Not the Limit

This is the gorgeous wallpapered sky that greeted us when we went out a few nights ago.

And the beauty doesn't stop. While out and about yesterday on my bike, I pulled up alongside the bay and witnessed a most incredible rainbow on the horizon, flanked by gigantic tufts of clouds.

And don't even get me started on the seasonal folliage.

A very good night to all.

Recipe Remix

Tonight Squidley created his version of a chicken picatta dish he enjoyed when we had dinner at a nice little restaurant over the weekend. The result was oh, so good.

A very good dinner.
And a very good evening.
Nighty night.

Autumnal Color Wheel

What a lovely, orangy, pumpkiny color! I am just head over heels for this sweet little prize.

The canary with a burst of deep purple is commonplace, yet never dull to the eyes.

Majestic colors pop when the sun sets.

A crimson-leafed tree that can be viewed from the back windows is quite a treat.
I suppose I'm not alone in claiming Fall as my favorite season. And it's nice to know there's a lot of good taste in seasons out there.
Wishing you a pleasant week.
Nighty night, all.

Two Times Tree Is One

I love the unique blending of these two trees and the resulting beauty. And what a perfect, solid green backdrop to further promote their prettiness!

Happy weekend, everyone.

Expressive Faces

Here is a handful of the little pansy faces I mentioned in a previous post. So lovely.

Say Cheese

India was auditioning a possible look for Halloween. And after seeing her face, I think I actually favor her going as a princess.

We're having a good day and hope it's good for you, too.

Nighty night, everyone.

Delish Dish

Thanks, Squidley, for a yummy stir-fry dinner.

Nighty night, all.

Mexican Mix

I always look forward to taco night at our house. Lots of times we vary it by enjoying all the ingredients put together as a salad. And if I had to choose my favorite item, it would likely be the cilantro. Even just the smell is fabulous. Yum, yum.

Wishing everyone a pleasant week.

Nighty night, all.

Sequels are never as good as the original

Underblog saves the day once again. Sweet Polly Purebred was just too tired to blog tonight.

Looks like a job for Underblog

Today was a long day for Elovabeth so today's blogging is left to me, Squidley, otherwise known as Underblog. The reason Deutsch is prominently pictured here is that we think he resembles a little muscle bound super hero in tights. No, not Underdog. Deutsch reminds us of Mighty Mouse.

We all hope everyone has a great weekend.

Summertime Lollygaggers

Italic Yes, it is indeed Fall. The gerberas are still in bloom, though they are, of course, naturally hardy.

And, not eager to exit their outdoor stage, a few azalea blooms linger a little while longer.

We are greatly enjoying the starting of the brilliance that is Autumn, yet are quite accepting of those dwindling beauties that, in actuality, belong to summertime.
Let the brilliance continue.
Nighty night, everyone.

It's Fall, and we're loving it!

Oh, and just a by the way. Tonight's blog entry is my 4ooth. My how time flies when you're having fun!

Ease on Down the Road

Today was a great day for a bike ride, and I was out on my two wheels for about two and a half hours. It was a bit challenging at times because one of my favorite roads, made of dirt and gravel, had suffered severe erosion during the recent flooding in our area. I had not traversed this road since that bad bout of weather, so the damage really startled me. In some places, such huge chunks of road were missing that it seemed as though a giant had taken "giant" sized bites. Additionally, in several places along the road, navigating was quite difficult because of huge deposits of sand that had collected. Despite my determination, I was forced to walk my bike through a couple of those areas.

All in all, I got in a great ride. The temp highs were in the upper seventies, perhaps even reaching the low eighties. I didn't see any other cyclists, something sorta unusual for such a pleasant day. I did spot several runners and a few individuals just out for a nice walk.

Prior to setting out on my ride, I shot some pictures outdoors. I will share more of those later; for now, I am posting the above photo, taken beside a small tree by the corner of our house.

I attended our monthly knitting guild meeting this evening, where I completed another little wool hat. This one is a simple beanie, knit with a self-patterning sock yarn. The wool is a washable one, so the hat is a practical one. Perhaps I will photograph it and publish a photo in a future post.

Well, we're all just about ready to get into the beddy bye.

Nighty night, everyone.

Mum's the Word

Pansies were the order of the afternoon, lots and lots of pansies. Colorful and velvety petals with dainty little faces. Blooms that just seem to know how pleasing to the eye they are. And, eager to please, making plans to stick around until late Spring.

And mums are a must for Fall. Beautiful burgundy buds biding their time to burst into full autumnal glory.

What a great dinner! Squidley's famous pan chicken with cabbage that had been parboiled, then sauteed with baby carrots.

One of my favorites made the dessert of the day: fresh strawberries and juice with fresh sliced bananas.

Don't Fence Me In

I'm glad I live in a country where freedom rings. I'm glad I live in a country so large that I will never run out of places to explore. And I'm glad that there's nowhere I can't go. As the expression goes, "I am free to move around the country."

Happy Columbus Day.

And nighty night, everyone.

Today is More Than a Mouthful

Elovabeth was very tired today after a day of dachshund babysitting and biking, so today is just a placeholder entered by Squidley. I am sure Elovabeth has plenty to say!

Run, Forrest, Run.

We were blessed with quite a lovely day, and Scout and Deutsch enjoyed it to the max. India did as well; I simply did not capture an image of her.

They so enjoy running and actually have different styles. Scout's hind feet touch the ground in an alternating fashion. Deutsh's hit the ground simultaneously. The common factor: each finds running a favorite activity.

I enjoyed a two hour bike ride this morning, with temps in the lower to mid seventies. And yes, it was an excellent day for combining exercise with the sheer joy of biking.

And now for some really good sleep.

Nighty night, all.

Horsefeathers

Today's "Windows Into Wednesdays" post features three pictures I shot this past weekend. The window pictured is one of my favorites. Additionally, the barn's "textured" siding absolutely begged me to take its photograph.

a closeup

It's almost as if the structure had been tarred and feathered.
Tired and sleepy.
Nighty night.

Everyone Knows It's Windy

The temp highs today were in the low sixties, but when I set out on my morning bike ride, it was still in the fifties. That may sound rather tame to some, but I'm telling you, it was cold. And oh, so windy. And oppressive winds are not what makes biking enjoyable. They do, however, give the rider a substantial workoout.

We are tired and are in the beddy bye early this evening.

Nighty night, all.

Whew!

Squidley really kept me on the go over the long weekend. And I have not yet recouped. And regardless of how tired we still are, he was raring and ready to go to the gym early this evening. Which made me even more tired. Tired, I tell you.

I'll post more once I'm back up to speed.

Wishing everyone a good week.

Nighty night.

Fruit of the Vine

This weekend turned out to be very busy and fruitful for all of us. We enjoyed sampling wine and also volunteered to help a local winery serve and sell wine. We all had a great time, even in the rain. Have a nice week.

A Fruitful Weekend

Our weekend has been nearly non-stop and quite fulfilling. I did, nonetheless, take time for a bike ride early this morning, an outing that was just ten minutes short of two hours. The ride was slightly abbreviated so that when I returned home I could put my bike away, take a shower in a jiffy, and accompany Squidley to a nearby plantation for the afternoon.

I will share more of the weekend's pictures later. For now, the beddy bye awaits us.

Hope you're having a pleasant weekend.

Nighty night.

The New Bike: Stage Left

We had our dinner rather late in the evening since we didn't get an early start at the gym. Nonetheless, Squidley put together a simple but excellent meal, chicken and fresh squash. Later, he sliced a honeydew melon for me. And of course, we enjoyed his homemade sweet tea.
And the news of the day: rain, rain, rain. I must admit, I do enjoy listening to it fall while we are all snug and secure indoors. But my new little bike (and even my old one, too) must surely be impatient while waiting in the wings.
We're tired from working out, so we're going to get into the beddy bye.
Everyone take good care.
Nighty night.
