The Black and Tancake

After a less than satisfactory dining out experience, Squidley, being the thoughtful hubby he is, began making pancakes for me right after we got home. Pretty soon I was smiling happily at my plate, piled high with medium-sized, golden pancakes.
But alas! There was a second plate on the heels of the first, holding the cutest ever bonus pancake: a sweet little golden dachshund. And I must confess it was that one that disappeared first.
Ok, perhaps not the most blog worthy photo or short story. Nonetheless, it was a small gesture that, in perhaps a silly little way, made my evening. And, as I always, always say:
It's the little things that mean a lot.
I also say:
I always cooperate with the police!
Nighty night, all.

A Sewer's Home Companion

This is my new sewer's companion. It has a bottom storage compartment and a sectional tray resting just above that. I like the brown and pink two-tone coloring, and I especially like the pink faux stitching on the lower front.

It's made by Singer, and I lucked up by getting it half price.

The companion includes a pin cushion, pins, needles, threader, seam ripper, tape measure, and scissors. Nice.

This will work nicely for transporting some of my sewing supplies to and from my monthly sewing classes.

I hope everyone is enjoying the day.

Nighty night, everyone.

Simple Arithmetic

Here is one of the promised photographs.
Multiply this picture by two.
Yield: two very attractive pillow covers

Sewing additional covers is on my "to do" list, and that list is quite lengthy. So, they will be sewn at some point in the near future.

I also did a bit of unrelated sewing late Saturday afternoon. There wasn't a lot of time for that because that time slot was tightly wedged between a sewing feet demonstration at a nearby shop and an evening out with friends.

I hope everyone has had a pleasant weekend.

Another Sneak Peek

Today has been very good, filled with all sorts of activities, and tonight Squidley and I got
together with five other couples for an evening overflowing with laughter.
.
And just a by the way. I shot the above photograph this afternoon as I worked on a little impromptu sewing project. I will post a few more pictures of said project later this week and tell a little bit about what I made.

We are, needless to say, quite tired.

I hope you're having a wonderful weekend.

Nighty night.

Photographic Promises

This is a little preview of one of my current projects. I will include additional photographs in an upcoming post.
Today has been quite busy for all of us, and (once again) I will share some of the fun we had through some photographs in an upcoming post.
And now it is time for beddy bye. It will be an especially fun one because we are going to have a pajama party. All of us!
Nighty night and sweet dreams to every single one of you.

After a Closer Examination

Deutsch formed a friendship with a little green tree frog last year, and he was disappointed when the little green guy went on hiatus along with the cooler temps.

This evening found him curious about the possibility of a new friend. After a few minutes of sizing the little fellow up, Deutsch decided he'd pass.

Nighty night, everyone.

Cool Hand (Paw) Scout

The house was a bit cool during the first half of the day (since the outdoor temperatures had dropped significantly), and Deutsch and Scout were all about keeping warm. Typically, they are excellent snugglers. This photograph shows how the cool temps assisted them in perfecting the fine art of hugging. (Note Scout's little white paws wrapped around his younger brother's shoulders.)

This afternoon, Squidley presented me with a spur of the moment dinner invitation. We enjoyed a wonderful meal at a private little place by the river, where we seized the opportunity to watch the Wednesday night sailboat races.

And now it's time for us to sail away to the beddy bye.

Nighty night, all.

Greek Week

Just like last week, we began this week with another wonderful Greek salad made using more of that hydroponically grown romaine lettuce and reallly fresh ingredients, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, green bell peppers, red onion, and feta cheese. But now we're all sleepy and ready for the beddy bye.

Nighty night, all, and Greek dreams.

One Hot Diggity Dog of a Balancing Act

The world's strongest dachshund decides to rearrange the furniture. I do hope he doesn't throw his back out.

Silly me. Can you tell I'm tired?

Nighty night, each and every one.

In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening

Our weather has made an about face from that of last week when the highs were registering anywhere from the mid-seventies to the high eighties. Squidley actually made me wear a light coat to church this morning. It made me sweat while riding in the jeep but kept me quite comfortable while outdoors and inside the sanctuary.
I wish everyone a pleasant week.
Nighty night.

Orange you glad it's the weekend?
Well, lime sure glad.
Here's wishing you a cherryful one!
Nighty night, everyone.

Star Billing

This was the star of our dinner this evening: a fresh, crisp, Greek salad. Why would something so simple deserve such acclamation? Well, there's the feta, one of my favorite cheeses. And there's onion, and red onion at that. And coolest of all, this particular head of romaine was grown hydroponically. Squidley has foaf (friend of a friend) that raises vegetables, using that method, in a greenhouse. And no kidding, it was some of the best lettuce I've ever tasted.

And I mustn't forget my compliments for the rest of the meal. There was fresh fried flounder with lots of huge lemon chunks, sweet hush puppies, and curled potato fries.

And tonight I hope to dream of a sweet, but simple, dessert. Something, perhaps, like the homemade strawberry pie my grandmother made many, many times throughout her lifetime. Or her apple pie. Maybe even her blackberry pie. And then there was her homemade coconut cake that always hit it out of the park.

At the risk of repeating myself:

Sweet Dreams.

Foot Patrol

Years ago, the Yellow Pages produced an ingenious little advertising slogan: Let your fingers do the walking.

Great concept. Rather catchy phrase. And there actually was a little jingle to make said phrase sorta singsongy. (Let your fingers do the walking through the Yellow Pages.)

Like I said. Great concept. And it's a valuable little tool much of the time. Sometimes, however, one's tasks are best solved by putting soles to pavement.

Cue the top-siders.

'nough said.

Tired.

Sleepy.

Calling it a night.

Yawn

We've had a very good day, but oh, are we tired! I was finding it difficult to keep my eyes open, so we decided to get into the beddy bye. Hope everyone is well and happy.

Nighty night.

The Importance of Being Spring

Squidley and I were out late this evening, attending a play (The Importance of Being Ernest, written by Oscar Wilde), so we are both exceedingly tired. Hence, I'm posting only a handful of photos tonight. They are, nonetheless, some of my favorites.

I wish everyone a fun and happy weekend.
Nighty night.

Snips and Snails and Puppy Dog Tail

These are the first of the pictures from our Easter weekend.

a "color-blocked" woodpecker

This and the next three pictures are a bit fuzzy since they were shot from behind a window.

Our first night's meal included fresh catfish, boiled carrots, and some sort of yellow rice.

There are fresh lemon wedges for the fish. Catfish, by the way, is a tradition for us. We almost always have it the first night of our first camping trip. (This is an extra picture I added to this post because of the interesting white-tipped tail protruding from underneath the table.)

I will post more pictures this week.
Nighty night, all.

Absentee Bunny

We celebrated Easter only about half a week ago, and already the fellow in the middle isn't responding to roll call.

Yeah. Things that make you go, "Hmmm . . . ."

Nighty night, everyone.

Olan Mills: Look at the Birdie

Thanks to Squidley for "guest blogging" for me last night when it was next to impossible for me to keep my eyes open. He did a great job and posted a darling picture of Scout. Tonight, because I like to keeps things impartial, I'm adding a nice shot of Deutsch. (I think this looks sorta like a photography studio portrait, perhaps in part because of the gray background and the white in the lower portion of the picture.)

This week I will publish some photos taken by me during our Easter weekend getaway. For now, I am, once again, quite sleepy and ready to get into the beddy bye.
Nighty night.

Much Ado About Dutch

I really do enjoy many Dutch things, with maybe a small number of exceptions, such as Dutch treat (when I must pay) and Dutch oven (when cooking a meal is expected of me). And interestingly, a few years ago, that theme surfaced when I asked an elderly (in her mid-nineties) cousin of my maternal grandmother what my maternal great grandmother was like. I was joyful at her quick response: She was a short, stout Dutch woman. I love it.

Happy Easter, all.
And nighty night.
