The Whole Kilt 'n' Kaboodle

We were scheduled to attend a yearly dinner called "Burns Supper" in late January, the same week as the birthdate of the honoree, Robert Burns, but when an incredible amount of snow fell, the event was postponed until early February. And guess what? There was a repeat performance of the snowfall, and again, the evening was a no go.

This past Saturday, about five weekends after the event's originally scheduled date, a large number of us gathered to honor one of Scotland's finest. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner, listened to humorous speeches and original poetry, and danced and listened to classic Scottish music. Everyone was finely dressed, the ladies in all sorts of creations, very long, mid-length, and short, shiny, glittery, bold, basic black, plaid accessories, etc.. While some men wore very handsome, dark suits, the larger number were dressed in traditional kilt attire, which included kilt, dress shirt, jacket, knee socks, hat, and sporin. The men looked dashing, the ladies looked gorgeous. And all in all, it was quite a lovely evening.

At each place setting was a placemat on which the words to "Auld Lang Syne" were printed. Later in the evening, we all joined hands and sang the song whose famous lyrics were written by Robert Burns.

The above two photos are but a sampling of the men's contribution to the evening. Their going all out on this oh, so appropriate attire added immensely to the occasion's festiveness. And simultaneously, they got a small taste of what we ladies go through with the whole skirt wearing thing. Of course, they didn't have to contend with pantyhose.

The above pictures show the snow in the parking lot just outside the dinner hall.
Well, it is late, and we are all tired. We had a nice little dinner of grilled chicken, rice, fresh green beans, and tossed salad, and I was almost ready to fall asleep afterward. Of course I had done about thirty minutes on the eliptical, and Squidley and I had walked for nearly an hour before dinner.
Everyone take very good care.
Nighty night.
