Day of Wine and Roses

Today's selection for "Windows into Wednesdays" is the striking view from the tasting room at a marvelous vineyard which we are able to enjoy from time to time. On an adjacent wall are two huge picture windows offering panoramic views of the lovely hillside.

Our time spent in this beautiful countryside was just as pleasant as it comes. It was cool, but not too cool. Just enough to require a sweater, sweatshirt, or light jacket. And not a drop of rain. The leaves were a bit past their peak but, nonetheless, stunning. The grapevines were magnificent, and there were even beautiful red roses blooming.
There were many others there with the same keen enjoyment we felt. We had experienced the "tasting" on a previous visit so instead opted for a few glasses each of a wine that had not been available last time. We chose a little tiled table at the far end of the veranda and sat down for an impromptu picnic which Squidley had packed the night before: homemade olive and cream cheese and egg salad sandwiches. There were lots of goodies for snacking as well. And I have to say that having a meal outdoors rates right up there with restaurants receiving a five star review. It doesn't matter whether it's simple sandwiches or fried chicken. Potato salad or tossed salad. Cookies and cake or store bought candy. Sometimes, though, Squidley gets rather inventive and somewhat elaborate when prepping things for the picnic basket. And of course, I will never ever object to that.
Hoping that everyone remembered our veterans today.
